What is power yoga?
Power yoga is a form of yoga that strengthens and stretches your muscles and builds core strength. At yogapower, all classes are practiced in a comfortably heated room. The heat helps your muscles to become more open and flexible while you move slowly through a different series of poses in each class.

If this is my first power yoga class, what should I expect?
You will find a very welcoming environment at yogapower. We have students of all levels who attend each class, and beginners are always welcome. All students are encouraged to go at his or her own pace and take as many breaks as needed. If you are more advanced, you'll find that our instructors offer the option of more advanced poses, and encourage you to continue to explore and expand your practice.

What should I wear? What should I bring? How should I prepare?
You should wear comfortable clothes. We recommend that you wear
longer pants to help avoid slipping in some of the poses and a fitted t-shirt
or tank top.

You will need a mat, towel, and water - all of these items are available to rent or buy at the studio.

It is generally recommended that you don't eat a full meal the two hours preceding your practice.

What levels of classes are available?
Unless listed as a special class, every yogapower class will take you through your practice with a different creative flow every time. You will be instructed to take every pose to your most challenging level, no matter where you are in your yoga practice.

Is private instruction available?
Yes! Nothing helps you get more out of your practice than a one-on-one session with an instructor at yogapower. Whether you have questions about doing certain poses correctly, would like to learn to "personalize" your practice to enhance your other physical activities, or you'd like to learn new postures to add to your practice, a private session will open your body and mind to new levels of strength, focus, and flexibility. To book a session, please send an email to yogis@yogapowerstudio.com

What are yogapower Community Classes?
As a part of new teacher training, our teachers are encouraged to give back through community service. Our newest teacher, Rachel Silverman, will be donating her time to practice teaching at yogapower, bringing the gift of yoga the Waltham community. Beginning May 17th, 2008 and running for 6 weeks, Rachel will be offering special Community Classes at yogapower on Saturdays at noon. Please come enjoy a free class and provide feedback to our newest yoga instructor!

Will power yoga help me to lose weight? Gain muscle? Make me more relaxed?
You will burn a lot of calories when you practice yoga. In addition, you will strengthen and develop your muscles, especially your core. Most studies show that building muscle while burning calories will result in losing weight.

People often find that their yoga practice helps them to handle stress better. The deep breathing that you do throughout your practice is something that you can do any time. We believe that practicing power yoga will not only make you physically stronger, but will help to create an invaluable sense of inner strength.

How often should I practice yoga?
We recommend practicing 3-5 times a week in order to obtain the maximum physical and mental benefits of power yoga.

As with starting any new exercise program, please consult with your physician before practicing power yoga.

Is the studio heated?
Our studio is heated to a comfortable 90 degrees.
